This is undoubtedly great news for Ukraine and an important step towards the economic and digital modernization of the society. This was stated in the February statement of the OECD Secretary General on Ukraine (see more: https://www.oecd.org/newsroom/statement-by-the-oecd-secretary-general-on-ukraine-24-02-2023.htm).
Thus, according to the statement, the office will start operating on March 1, 2023, at the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Ukraine in Kyiv. The office is being established with the financial support of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, and Slovakia for the establishment and operation of this office. At full capacity, a team of four OECD officials will coordinate the implementation of the new OECD-Ukraine Program on the ground from Kyiv.
In a statement, the OECD Secretary General said: “…As we move forward, the most immediate focus should be on securing a comprehensive, just and lasting peace for the people of Ukraine as soon as possible, in accordance with international law and the terms of the UN resolution adopted with overwhelming support by its membership yesterday. Such a peace is in the interest not only of the people of Ukraine, but also of people around the world….
…In the meantime, the OECD will continue to support Ukraine’s determined efforts to plan and prepare for reconstruction and recovery to help rebuild better, stronger and in line with the values of a free, open, market-based democracy and the high standards expected of a potential OECD member.”
