About University
Founded in 1804 , the Kharkiv National University is one of the oldest universities in Eastern Europe. The Kharkiv University is the only one in Ukraine where three Nobel laureates studied and worked: biologist Ilya Mechnikov, economist Semyon Kuznets, and physicist Lev Landau.
The university stood at the origins of all higher education in the Kharkiv region. The National Law Academy, the National Pharmaceutical Academy, Kharkiv Medical University, Kharkiv Pedagogical University, Kharkiv Zoo-Veterinary Academy, Kharkiv Academy of Culture, Kharkiv Economic University and other institutions of higher education originate from it.
According to the results of the annual ranking of the best higher education institutions in the world QS World University Rankings, Karazin University has been ranked first among Ukrainian universities for several years in a row.
According to the QS World University Rankings 2022, the institution of higher education confirmed its primacy in Ukraine and ranked 511-520 globally
About 20,000 students study in 115 majors and specializations at Karazin University, and this covers the entire spectrum of modern classical university education. Every year, entrants become university students, among whom about 30% are medalists and 10% are prizewinners of the third and fourth stages of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiads. Also, the University is one of the largest scientific centers of Ukraine. It presents almost all areas of modern fundamental science. The university includes the Research Institute of Chemistry, the Research Institute of Biology, and the Research Institute of Astronomy.
Karazin University carries out a wide program of international cooperation, is an active member of the international community of leading European and world universities. It carries out cooperation agreements with 61 partner organizations in 25 countries of the world.
In November 2022, Karazin University celebrated its 218th anniversary referring to the signing of the Confirmation Letter on its foundation, and in January 2022, it celebrated the 218th anniversary of its opening.
Rector is doctor of legal sciences, professor, honored lawyer of Ukraine Tetyana Yevgeniivna Kaganovska.
